Where possible Boolean used Open Source Solutions to harness the power of distributed peer review and create a transparency of process. The promise of Open Source is better quality, higher reliability, more flexibility, lower cost, and an end to predatory vendor lock-in.
They also attempted to ‘eat their own dog food’, – meaning that they used the very same products they were recommending. The idea originated in television commercials for Alpo brand dog food; actor Lorne Greene would tout the benefits of the dog food, and then would say it’s so good that he feeds it to his own dogs. In 1988, Microsoft manager Paul Maritz popularised the saying which is now commonly used by technology companies.
